The difference between an industrial robot and a manipulator arm

A manipulator arm is a mechanical device, which can be automatic or artificially controlled; Industrial robot is a kind of automation equipment, manipulator arm is a kind of industrial robot, industrial robot also has other forms. An industrial manipulator arm is a fixed or mobile machine whose construction is usually composed of a series of interconnected or relatively sliding parts to grasp or move objects, capable of automatic control, repeatable programming, and multiple degrees of freedom (axis). It works mainly by linear motion along the X, Y, and Z axes to reach the target position.
Industrial robot is a machine device that automatically performs work, and it is a machine that realizes various functions by its own power and control ability. It can be commanded by humans or run according to pre-programmed programs, and modern industrial robots can also act according to principles formulated by artificial intelligence technology.

The manipulator arm is widely used in the industry, and the main technology it contains is drive and control, and the manipulator arm is generally a series structure.
Robot is mainly divided into series structure and parallel structure: parallel robot is mostly used in the need of high stiffness, high precision, high speed, no large space occasions, specifically used in sorting, handling, simulation of motion, parallel machine tools, metal cutting processing, robot joints, spacecraft interface, etc. The series robot and parallel robot form a complementary relationship in application, and the series robot has a large working space, which can avoid the coupling effect between the drive axes. However, each axis of the mechanism needs to be controlled independently, and encoders and sensors are needed to improve the accuracy of the movement.
