Basics Of Pneumatic Handling Manipulator

Pneumatic manipulator is widely used due to its advantages of simple structure, light weight, rapid movement, smooth and reliable operation, energy saving and environmental protection. Designed with control technology, pneumatic technology, and position detection technology, etc., the pneumatic manipulator is a typical device of mechatronics that is especially used in material handling in industrial automation production line.

Pneumatic handling manipulator, a 4-DOF manipulator, can complete four DOF movements: manipulator arm rotation, manipulator lifting, manipulator clamping and releasing, and rotation stop of manipulator arm at the unloading position. The pneumatic manipulator is composed of mechanical system, position detection system, pneumatic transmission system and electrical control system. A radial ball bearing supports the rotating shaft, and the rotating actuating cylinder drives the robot arm to rotate through the rotating shaft. The rotating arm can rotate and stay between loading & unloading position and picking position. A limit block adjusts the movement range of the arm. With one end of the arm being connected to the rotating shaft, the lifting cylinder and the guiding shaft seat of the hand claw are installed on the other end. The lifting cylinder lifts the manipulator to realize the action of lifting and lowering the workpiece.

The movement process of a pneumatic manipulator is as follows.

(1) The arm block is lifted to certain position;
(2) The arm descends to certain position;
(3) Finger clamping processed workpiece to certain position;
(4) The arm is lifted to certain position;
(5) The arm counterclockwise rotates to the unloading position;
(6) The arm descends to certain position;
(7) Release the finger;
(8) The arm is lifted to certain position;
(9) The arm block descends to certain position;
(10) The arm counterclockwise rotates to the pickup position;
(11) The arm descends to certain position;
(12) Finger clamping unprocessed workpiece in place;
(13) The arm is lifted in place;
(14) The arm clockwise rotates to the loading position, the arm descends to certain position, and Release the finger;
(15) Return to the origin.
